A true great wealth of Mastrojanni is the variety of soils. We like to say that each vineyard is, or could be, a cru, there are many differences between the vineyards. After the historic Schiena d'Asino, we now decide to present Loreto. Why another Brunello Vigna? Because we believe in Brunello and in the sensitivity of Sangiovese to combine differently according to the different terrains. The Loreto vineyard is a hectare and a half of steep tuff well rich in pebbles that the Orcia has left us as a gift retreating, on which 8000 vines of 15 years of age grown in spurred cordon grow. The yield is ours: a total of 70 - 80 quintals of Sangiovese for 9,000 bottles that make an elegance that I would call conscious, their main feature. The red is full ruby and prepares for a bouquet that overflows with roses, violets, irises, raspberries, wild strawberries and plums. All closed by the fresh and balsamic notes of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, present but less evident than usual in this vineyard. The mouth is deep, austere, complex: the influence of the tuff on the tannin is clearly felt, which only the softness of a vintage like 2007 mitigates. And still the freshness of the Mediterranean scrub and the mineral returns in the final tasting. We are proud of our choice: together with the strength and fullness typical of our Brunellos, we now have tangible proof that even in Castelnuovo dell 'Abate Sangiovese it is finesse and elegance. It opens in the mouth immediately and continues in the final fullness. A real Sangiovese to be enjoyed without pairing with food.
